Archeology in WoW Cataclysm Classic
Archaeology is a new profession that will be introduced in the third expansion to World of Warcraft: Cata Classic. This is a secondary skill that will allow you to find artifacts of different races and, of course, get rewards for it. If you want all the rewards from archeology and get it efficiently then you can buy Cata Leveling Boost and get riding animals, pets, accessories with funny effects and, importantly, epic weapons. All the rewards from profession can be transferred to your other characters, as well as various buffs for groups.
All the basic things and how the Archeology work in WoW
- The process is divided into field work (excavation) and research work, when you collect artifacts from a number of collected debris. Excavations can only be carried out in certain locations, which are marked on the general map with a shovel icon and on the location map with a spot. Usually four archaeological sites are given on the continent map (16 in total for all continents), on which you can excavate. Once you have “worked” one of them, another site becomes available.
- The things you find are divided into simple fragments and “key” fragments (keystone), the latter are necessary for the assembly of rare artifacts, and can also speed up the assembly of artifacts from simple fragments (one keystone replaces twelve ordinary fragments). Each race has its own keystones. A list of the different races’ keystones is given below:
Trolls: Troll TabletNight Elves: Highborne Scroll
Dwarves: Dwarf Rune Stone
Orcs: Orc Blood Text
Draenei: Draenei Tome
Nerubians: Nerubian Obelisk
Vrykul: Vrykul Rune Stick
Tol’vir: Tol’vir Hieroglyphic
- Archaeological fragments can buff the combat abilities of you and your group in 5ppl instances, see Archaeological Buffs.
- Arriving at the site you press the button to activate the skill (“shovel”) and then appears theodolite (a thing similar to a telescope) and a pole with a light bulb; the color of the light bulb shows how far you are from the place where the treasure is buried (red is far away, yellow means that it is closer, green – somewhere very close). The direction of further search is shown by the theodolite.
After a container appears near you, you need to click on it and you will get the artifact shards of a certain race; in the video below you can see how everything happens. It is possible to collect archaeological fragments of one race, such as night elves. The number of them usually varies between 3-5 from one excavation site. A race that has a bonus in archaeology is the Dwarves; they can find more fragments per excavation.
Level 1-50 Archeology in Cata Classic
To start practicing archaeology, head to the city of Stormwind for Alliance players or Orgrimmar for Horde players. Once you reach level 20, you can begin learning this fascinating profession. Use the “Survey” ability in the professions tab to discover fragments scattered around the world.

Explore these locations using Survey within the specified area to uncover valuable fragments. Pay attention to the changing colors of the Survey telescope guiding you closer to your target.
Collect fragments diligently, increasing your skill level from 1 to 50. However, once you reach level 50, you will no longer receive skill points just for finding fragments.
