The Drop Rate, and Why the Farm Takes Months
The staff drops at roughly 14.6%. Wowhead’s sample records 1,425 drops across 9,773 Illidan kills, which works out to about one staff every seven kills.
Black Temple runs on a weekly lockout, so a character gets one Illidan kill per reset — one 14.6% roll a week. Half of all players see the staff within five lockouts. Roughly one in five is still empty-handed after ten, and that tail is the real problem. Nobody knows in advance which group they are in, and the second group spends a large stretch of the tier chasing one weapon slot.
