What Is a Material in Diablo 4?

Quick answer

A material in Diablo 4 is any resource you collect to turn into progress somewhere else: a key that opens a boss lair, Obducite for the Blacksmith, a gem bought with Forgotten Souls, or Red Dust spent at a PvP vendor. None of them make a character stronger on their own. They are the fuel for every upgrade.

The problem is the rate. Masterworking one item takes thousands of Obducite, the higher lair keys only drop from lower bosses, and Red Dust has to survive a walk to the Altar of Extraction. Late in a season, most players run out of one of them long before they run out of time.

Which Material Order Do You Need?

Pick by what is blocking you right now. Each service solves a different shortage.

Your build kills bosses but you lack summons: boss materials. The keys come by in-game trade, and you fight Belial, Duriel, Andariel or Mephisto yourself as often as the stack allows.

Your gear is right but not finished: crafting materials. Obducite pays for Masterworking ranks, Neathiron rerolls capstones on Ancestral items, and Scattered Prisms add sockets. You can tick several in one order.

You want the PvP cosmetics or mount armor: Red Dust. It is farmed and purified on your hero in the Fields of Hatred, on PC, Xbox or PlayStation.

Good to know: lair keys are handed over by trade, but crafting materials and Red Dust cannot be. Those two are farmed on the character that will use them, so pick the right realm and hero at checkout.

Realms, Speed and Delivery

All three services work on Seasonal and Eternal realms, Softcore or Hardcore. Hardcore costs more everywhere, because a one-life hero is played slower. Boss keys and crafting materials have an Express option that moves the order to the front of the queue. Extra gold can be added to both.

The best-rated booster takes the order, usually within 15 minutes. You follow progress in the order chat, and a screenshot of the result closes the order.

05

Where Materials Lead Next

Masterworking also costs gold, so many players add Diablo 4 gold to an Obducite order. Keys are only worth it with a build that wins the fight, and the Diablo 4 boss carries handle the kill when it does not. Finished materials often go into the Mythic craft set.

FAQ

Questions players ask

How are Diablo 4 materials delivered?

Diablo 4 materials arrive two ways. Boss keys are handed over by in-game trade. Crafting materials and Red Dust are farmed directly on your character.

Can I buy Obducite and keys in one order?

No. Obducite is on the crafting materials card and lair keys on the boss materials card. You can place both orders for the same hero.

How fast can a material order start?

Boss key and crafting material orders start about 15 minutes after payment. The Red Dust farm starts within 15 to 30 minutes.

Which realms do material orders support?

Every material order supports Seasonal and Eternal realms in Softcore and Hardcore. Hardcore orders cost more and take longer.
