WoW Forever professions look like Classic until you open the recipe list. Blizzard added over 600 recipes, moved healing potions to First Aid and gave every trade its own camp objects, so an old Classic guide will mislead you above skill 215 or so. Below you get the pair to pick for your goal, what changed, and the leveling steps. If you would rather skip the grind, our WoW Forever profession boost takes a trade to the skill you need.

Checked on November 5, 2026. The game launched a day ago, so the steps below 225 are tested in beta, while everything above 225 comes from game data and has not been played on live realms. We will update this guide as live results come in.

Quick answer:

  • You get 2 primary professions and all 3 secondary ones: Cooking, First Aid and Fishing.
  • Skill cap is 300, and there is no new profession such as Jewelcrafting.
  • Professions give no passive stat bonus. Their value comes from crafting, gathering and camp buffs.
  • Cloth classes take Tailoring + Enchanting, plate takes Blacksmithing + Mining, leather and mail take Leatherworking + Skinning.
  • For early gold, Herbalism + Mining is the safest start.

What Are Professions in WoW Forever?

Professions are the trades your character learns to gather materials and craft gear, potions and enchants. There are 12 in total: 9 primary (Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, Tailoring) and 3 secondary (Cooking, First Aid, Fishing).

RankSkill capYou need
Apprentice75Any trainer
Journeyman150Skill 50, level 10
Expert225Skill 125, level 20
Artisan300Skill 200, level 35

Forever gives trades a separate window (default key K), and you can drop a primary profession there. Relearning it means leveling from the start, so choose with your main goal in mind.

What Changed From Classic?

  • Over 600 new recipes across all skill ranges, which is Blizzard's own figure.
  • Healing potions moved. Six Classic healing potions now belong to First Aid, not Alchemy.
  • Leatherworking makes mail as well as leather.
  • Enchanting makes gear. It now produces wands, staves, off-hands and relics, plus necklace enchants at skill 210. If that is your plan, the WoW Forever Enchanting boost saves you a long dust grind.
  • No passive bonuses. The stat perks shown in early footage are gone, according to later game data.
  • Racial changes. The Gnome Engineering racial now cuts device failure by 20%, and Tauren Cultivation grows a duplicate herb instead of adding skill.
  • Legacy points. Each crafting profession awards 1 point at skill 150, 225 and 300.

What Are the Best Professions in WoW Forever?

Choosing WoW Forever professions comes down to your goal, not only your class. Crafted gear fills a large share of pre-raid slots, and guides that count those slots rank Leatherworking and Tailoring highest. Guides that count raid consumables favor Alchemy instead, so decide which of the two you care about.

Your goalPairWhy it works
Cloth caster gearTailoring + EnchantingMage, Priest and Warlock make their own gear and disenchant what they replace
Plate melee gearBlacksmithing + MiningWarrior and Paladin default, with your own ore supply
Leather and mail gearLeatherworking + SkinningDruid, Hunter, Rogue and Shaman, and Leatherworking now covers mail too
PvP, any classEngineering + MiningGadgets and bombs are the most cited PvP edge
ConsumablesAlchemy + HerbalismYou brew for yourself before raids open on December 9
Gold at launchHerbalism + MiningRaw materials sell before crafted gear does
Tailoring, leatherworking and blacksmithing stations

Whatever you choose, level Cooking, Fishing and First Aid as well, because they do not take a primary slot. Food now adds an XP bonus, which pays off from your first levels. Tailors also make the bags everyone wants early, and our WoW Forever Tailoring boost is the quick way to that point.

How to Level Enchanting Fast in WoW Forever

Runed rod and enchanting dust on a table

Enchanting has no gathering partner, so your supply is green items and the Auction House. The new vendor reagent Mote of Magic gets you started without a single dropped material.

SkillWhat to do
1-20Make a Runed Copper Rod with Mote of Magic, then disenchant greens
20-200Wands, bracers and cloaks, starting with Lesser Magic Wand
200-250Bracer, cloak and chest enchants with Vision Dust
250-265Lesser Mana Oil
265-294Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina, which eats most of your Dream Dust
295-300Runed Arcanite Rod, then Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense

Budget most for Dream Dust and Vision Dust. Guides disagree on who teaches Artisan, so check the trainer in your capital before you travel. Annora in Uldaman teaches the high-level recipes.

How to Level Tailoring Fast in WoW Forever

Tailoring recipes turn grey earlier than in Classic, by 25 to 45 points, so buy fewer of each and move on sooner. Cloth drops from humanoids as you quest, so keep every stack.

SkillWhat to do
1-70Bolts of Linen, then Linen Belt
75-125Woolen Cape to about 100, then wool shoulders
125-205Silk and Mageweave pieces, ending on Black Mageweave Gloves
215-235Runecloth Belt
235-300Runecloth pieces and bought patterns from vendors

Two traps here: bolts stop giving points around 225, and no trainer recipe stays orange past 272. The last stretch needs patterns from vendors or drops, and it will use more Runecloth than any other step.

How to Level Alchemy Fast in WoW Forever

Alchemy is the steadiest trade to level, since one herb route feeds most of it. Pair it with Herbalism and you will rarely need the Auction House before skill 200. Flasks now need an Alchemy Laboratory rather than a Scholomance trip. Guides split on the last 30 points, so check what your trainer offers from 270. Short on time? The WoW Forever Alchemy boost covers the whole route.

SkillWhat to do
1-55Elixir of Minor Defense
55-65Minor Mana Potion
65-90Elixir of Minor Fortitude
90-120Elixir of Wisdom
120-240Mana potions, with Philosopher's Stone at 225
260-275Superior Mana Potion

What Do Camps and Merchant's Favor Add?

Profession camp with tent and trade crates

Each profession has 3 camp objects, unlocked at skill 20, 140 and 300. The first comes from trainers or starter quests, and the others from Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses. Camp buffs are weaker than class buffs and do not stack with them, but many top recipes need a station such as the Tanning Rack, so plan for them.

Merchant's Favor is the crate currency. Fill Waylaid Crates at Three Corners in Redridge (Alliance) or outside the Crossroads in The Barrens (Horde), then spend Favor on recipes costing 30 to 360 Favor. It is earned per character, and crafted gear from those recipes binds on pickup.

Which Profession Boost Should You Buy?

Buy for the slowest stretch of the trade you picked. For most players that means the last 100 points of Enchanting or Tailoring, where materials and vendor trips add up. Crafters also earn Legacy points on the way, and the WoW Forever Profession Legacy boost covers that side of your trades.
