WoW Midnight: Eclipse is patch 12.2 — the next major patch for WoW and the expansion’s final major content update. It takes players beneath Azeroth into the Mantle Vault and on to a showdown with Xal’atath in the eight-boss Worldcore raid. A legendary caster dagger, a new dungeon and lair, Mythic+ Season 3, three new paladin races and a round of housing tools complete the patch.
One thing to keep in mind from the start: Eclipse and Season 3 do not start on the same day. Blizzard says the season begins shortly after the patch goes live, so the new zone and raid arrive first and the new Mythic+ ladder follows.
This overview is based on the BlizzCon What’s Next panel and Blizzard’s official Midnight roadmap. Details that still need patch notes or PTR testing are marked as such, and the page is updated as they land.
WoW Patch 12.2 Release Date and Season 3 Timing
Blizzard has not announced an exact release date for patch 12.2. The official Midnight roadmap places Eclipse in winter, after patch 12.1.7 and before the reveal of the next expansion, The Last Titan, in winter or spring 2027.
There is no Eclipse PTR yet. The test realms currently run 12.1.5 with the Unbinding of Kith’ix and Labyrinths. Patch 12.1.7, Echoes of the Worldcore, comes before Eclipse, with a Talebound preview planned for the PTR in October.
Mythic+ Season 3 starts shortly after patch 12.2, not on launch day. The exact gap, the raid opening schedule and the seasonal reset will come with Blizzard’s release announcement.
Eclipse Story and the Mantle Vault
Xal’atath’s pursuit of the Worldsoul drives the conflict beneath Azeroth. The path to the Worldcore runs through hidden Titan vaults, where players confront the Devouring Host and gather new allies for the final battle. Eclipse closes Midnight’s major-update arc; the Worldsoul Saga itself continues with The Last Titan.
The new zone, the Mantle Vault, is an ancient Titan facility hidden away for eons. Stone worms and crystalline elementals roam its halls, and two very different factions live there.
The Thraegar and Deepskar Empire
The Thraegar are an ancient race of crystalline, dwarflike creatures and the patch’s new allies — the new dungeon, Thraegar’s Stand, carries their name. The Deepskar Empire is the hostile side: a coalition of kobolds, troggs and drogbar under niffen leadership.
Radiant Screams
Radiant Screams are the Mantle Vault’s new outdoor feature: disturbances tied to the Worldsoul’s outcries that players respond to across the zone. How often they run and what they reward has not been announced yet.
The Worldcore Raid and Gearhold Lair
The Worldcore is an eight-boss raid with void enemies, Titan constructs, living Azerite and a final confrontation with Xal’atath. It is the end point of Midnight’s story and the main raid of patch 12.2.
Blizzard has not yet named the other bosses or announced the raid’s difficulties, item levels and opening schedule. Boss names, loot and tracks will be added here once the PTR opens.
The Gearhold: Noctinaxx
Noctinaxx, an enormous Azerite bat, is the single boss of the Gearhold lair. It is available on World, Normal, Heroic and flexible Mythic difficulties, which makes the lair the most accessible raid content in patch 12.2.
Midnight’s Edge: Legendary Caster Dagger
Midnight’s Edge is a legendary caster dagger tied to the Worldcore. According to Blizzard, defeating the raid is only one of the many steps needed to unlock it. The full questline, eligible specs and stats have not been revealed yet.
Thraegar’s Stand: New Three-Boss Dungeon
Thraegar’s Stand is the new Midnight Eclipse dungeon in the Mantle Vault and joins the Mythic+ pool in Season 3. Its three encounters:
| Encounter | What is known |
|---|---|
| Cragcleaver and Foreman Sullk | A pair of excavation foremen |
| Monokk | An Azerite elemental |
| Stenvarg the Inevitable | A deadly Titan construct |
Abilities, routes and timers will follow once the dungeon is playable on the PTR.
Mythic+ Season 3 Dungeon Pool and Rewards
Season 3 runs an eight-dungeon pool: the new Thraegar’s Stand, two Midnight dungeons returning from Season 1 and five updated legacy dungeons.
| Dungeon | Season 3 status |
|---|---|
| Thraegar’s Stand | New in patch 12.2 |
| Magisters’ Terrace | Midnight dungeon, returning from Season 1 |
| Maisara Cavern | Midnight dungeon, returning from Season 1 |
| The Underrot | Updated legacy dungeon |
| Iron Docks | Updated legacy dungeon |
| Sanguine Depths | Updated legacy dungeon |
| The Stonecore | Updated legacy dungeon |
| Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr | Updated legacy dungeon |
Every returning dungeon is being reworked for the new season. The developers described the Midnight dungeons as coming back “leaner and meaner” and hinted that some legacy dungeons will lose bosses, so expect new routes and timers rather than the versions you remember.
Top 1% and Top 5% Rewards Become Specialization-Based
Season 3 adds a new Top 5% reward tier next to Top 1%, and both are now awarded by your ranking within your specialization instead of one combined ladder. A Frost Mage competes against other Frost Mages, not against every player in the region.
For players outside the meta, this is the biggest change of the season: the goal becomes placing high within your own spec. Blizzard has detailed the new rule for the Top 1% and Top 5% rewards; other Mythic+ reward thresholds have not been described yet.
New to rating? Our Mythic+ guide covers the basics, and the Midnight class and spec tier list shows how specs rank right now.
Season 3 Delves: Valeera and the New Nemesis
With patch 12.2 and Season 3, Delves get new variations, new Curios and a new Nemesis. Your companion, Valeera Sanguinar, continues her journey with an increased level cap — that is Valeera’s own progression, not a higher player level cap or new numbered Delve tiers.
Is a New Delve Companion Replacing Valeera?
No. Blizzard describes Valeera’s story and progression continuing in Season 3. Astalor Bloodsworn arrives as the new Delve Nemesis, bringing optional challenges and new ways to test your skills — he is an opponent, not the companion who takes her place.
Seasonal Delve rules — Curio changes, the maximum tier and Great Vault item levels — will be confirmed closer to Season 3.

Prey Gets Agony Mode
Agony Mode is a Prey difficulty, not a Delve tier. In Eclipse you hunt new Prey and endure new Torments in the Mantle Vault, and Agony Mode is the final Prey difficulty.
Astalor Bloodsworn appears in both systems: your Prey investigations alongside him lead into the Mantle Vault, while in Delves he is the new Nemesis.
New Paladin Races: Undead, Night Elf and Troll
Forsaken (Undead), Night Elf and Troll characters can become paladins in patch 12.2. Undead paladins are the headline of the three and a combination players have asked about for years.

Blizzard has not yet explained how each race’s paladin tradition fits the story or whether an unlock is required. No other class changes were announced for Eclipse. If you plan a new paladin, pick the race and role now — the combination itself becomes available with the patch.
Housing: Showcase, Mannequins and Editing Tools
Patch 12.2 adds a social layer to housing. Showcase lets you browse and submit player homes and share your own with a Visitor Code. Mannequins display unlocked armor and weapon appearances inside your house.
Editing gets easier too: copy-paste, multi-select for decor and buying extra copies of a decor item without leaving home. Four new Endeavors also arrive, including the Stormriders of the Isle of Dorn.
Calibration Chamber and PvP Journey
The Calibration Chamber, new in patch 12.2, is a space for testing your rotation: different target dummies, cooldown resets on demand, full raid buffs and room for your whole party or raid. It gives groups a controlled way to compare setups before a raid night.
PvP gets a new PvP Journey with its own rewards. Season 3 PvP details have not been announced yet.
WoW Midnight Roadmap: Where Eclipse Fits
Eclipse is the final major update of Midnight, but not the last content. Blizzard’s official roadmap runs from autumn 2026 to summer 2027:
| Update | Window | What it brings |
|---|---|---|
| 12.1.5 | Autumn 2026 | Labyrinths, the Kith’ix campaign and mini raid, Aqir Invasions, Hallow’s End updates, reputation warbandification |
| 12.1.7 — Echoes of the Worldcore | Autumn–winter 2026 | Talebound (PTR preview in October), story and quests, Lorewalking: Thrall, Turbulent Timeways, Winter Veil updates |
| 12.2 — Eclipse | Winter | Mantle Vault, Worldcore raid, Gearhold lair, Thraegar’s Stand, new Delves, legendary caster blade, Forsaken, Night Elf and Troll paladins, housing updates, Season 3 |
| The Last Titan reveal | Winter–spring 2027 | The next expansion announced |
| 12.2.5 | Spring 2027 | Soulstorms world event, story and quests, transmog updates including transmog across armor types |
| 12.2.7 | Summer 2027 | Story and quests, Midnight recap, Lorewalking, professions and Midsummer updates |
| Wrath of the Lich King Remix | Not dated | A return to Northrend with the power of the Scourge |
The roadmap gives seasons rather than dates, and Blizzard notes that content and timing are subject to change.
How to Prepare for Eclipse
Most of patch 12.2 cannot be farmed before it arrives, but the groundwork can be laid now.
| When | What to do | Still to be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Before Eclipse | Finish your current seasonal goals, practice your role and lock in a dungeon group or raid schedule. | End-of-season dates |
| When Eclipse launches | Start the campaign and the Mantle Vault, create the new paladin you planned, try the new housing tools. | Raid opening schedule |
| When Season 3 opens | Learn the new dungeon routes and set weekly goals from the published loot and Delve rules. | Affixes, timers, item levels |
Mythic+ players should settle their main spec early, since the Top 1% and Top 5% rewards now count within a specialization. Raiders can plan around the Worldcore opening schedule and the Midnight’s Edge questline. Solo players can follow Valeera’s progression and the new Nemesis, and housing fans can gather layout ideas and the appearances they want on mannequins.
