WoW Midnight Season 2 opens on August 18, one week after Patch 12.1: The Curse of Ula’tek lands on August 11. That one-week gap is the whole point of this guide. What you do before the season starts decides how your first month plays. Most of the preparation costs nothing but knowing about it. Here’s the full wow midnight season 2 checklist. What to finish before the patch, what to do on campaign day, and the exact priority order for launch week.

Season 2 Key Dates & Facts
Before the Patch — What Expires With Season 1
The week before August 11 is a deadline, not a waiting room. Three things vanish or reset when the patch lands, and none of them come back:
Beyond the cutoffs, two quieter preparations pay off all season. Clear your currency caps — anything capped on patch day is income lost. And bring every alt you intend to play up to the level cap now. Launch week is the most expensive possible time to be leveling: every hour spent catching up is an hour lost to content that only pays this well in week one.
August 11 — the Curse of Ula’tek Campaign
Almost everyone enters Patch 12.1 at max level, so the real starting gate is the story. The campaign runs five chapters through Zul’Aman and Atal’Utek. Finishing it opens the Coiled Isle and nearly everything Season 2 adds:
| Campaign unlock | What it gates |
|---|---|
| The Coiled Isle | The whole new zone and its systems |
| Nightmare Prey Hunts | The rare-hunt activity and its rewards |
| New Delves | Season 2 delve locations, including the Nemesis |
| Tidebound Grotto | The single-boss lair |
| Cursed Fishing & Zul’jarra renown | The Isle’s progression systems |
| Raid access route | The path toward the Venomous Abyss |
The campaign is live a full week before the season. Finish it in that window, and launch day starts with every door already open. Skip it, and most of Season 2 stays behind a quest log, whatever your item level says. Short on the week? The story can be handed off and finished before the season timer starts.
August 18 — What to Do First on Launch Day
The priority order matters more than the hours played. This is the sequence that wastes nothing:
- 1. Base Mythic dungeons first. Entry gear around 292, no key required, and the runs unlock the key system itself.
- 2. Start the key ladder the same week. Every timed dungeon pays loot, crests and vault progress at once — the vault filled in week one arrives in week two.
- 3. Step into the raid as the gear allows. Normal first, Heroic as the set builds. Tier pieces compound into every run that follows.
- 4. Take the lair weekly. Thirty minutes, one boss, raid-band loot and its own vault slot — the best time-to-reward ratio in the patch.
- 5. Weave delves and PvP around the rest. Solo vault progress from delve tiers; rating climbs cheapest while the ladder is soft.
What’s New in Season 2
The patch 12.1 content set, in one pass. The Venomous Abyss is the flagship raid — eight bosses ending at Ula’tek, holding the tier sets and the season’s highest item level. Beside it, the Tidebound Grotto lair offers one boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, for flexible groups of 15–25. It carries a full difficulty ladder and the only Flexible Mythic in the patch. The dungeon rotation rebuilds around Altar of Fangs and four more new Midnight dungeons, with three returning classics completing the eight. Delves expand onto the Coiled Isle, where the Nemesis Azta’rec hunts the top tiers in Venomfall Deeps. The Isle itself adds Prey Hunts, Cursed Fishing and the Zul’jarra’s Forces renown track. Three currency families drive the season: Mistcrests for gear upgrades across four tiers, Undercoin from delves, and the new Corrosive currencies from the Isle’s activities.
The Week-One Gearing Path
The item level breakpoints, so you know where each activity hands off to the next:
| Step | Item level | Why it’s the step |
|---|---|---|
| Base Mythic dungeons | ~292 gear · ~295 vault | No key needed; unlocks the ladder |
| Keyed dungeons up to +10 | 295–311 gear · up to 318 vault | Loot, crests and vault from the same runs; caps at +10 |
| Heroic raid | 305–315 gear | Tier tokens and trinkets the dungeons don’t drop |
| Delve tiers 8–11 | up to 305 · Hero-track vault | The solo lane to the same vault quality |
| Mythic raid | 318–344 | The ceiling — for rosters that clear it |
The thread through all of it is Mistcrests. They flow at a capped weekly pace regardless of playtime, which makes them the most schedule-bound resource of the season. Bank them from week one, and drops become upgrades immediately instead of waiting at base item level for currency that didn’t get farmed.
Which Activity Fits Your Goal
| Your Season 2 goal | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Unlock the season’s content at all | The Curse of Ula’tek campaign, from August 11 |
| Best gear per hour played | Mythic+ keys — loot, crests, vault and rating at once |
| Tier sets and Ahead of the Curve | The Venomous Abyss on Heroic |
| Weekly loot without a roster | The Tidebound Grotto lair — 30 minutes a reset |
| Solo progression | Delve tiers and their vault row |
| Rating and seasonal PvP rewards | Rated brackets while cutoffs are low |
| The seasonal mounts and titles | Each mode’s rating or achievement line — all retire at season’s end |
Your Season 2 Head-Start Plan
Before August 11
- Claim any Season 1 cutoff rewards still within reach — they retire with the rollover.
- Spend capped currencies and clear the delve track before it wipes.
- Bring the alts you’ll play to the cap, so launch week isn’t spent leveling.
August 11–17
- Finish all five campaign chapters — the Coiled Isle and everything on it waits behind them.
- Explore the Isle’s systems early: Prey Hunts, Cursed Fishing and the renown track all start paying immediately.
Week 1 of the season
- Entry dungeons first — item level is the gate on everything else.
- Fill the Great Vault on every row it offers: keys, raid, delves.
- Bank Mistcrests from every source; the weekly cap resets whether you used it or not.
- Start rating climbs while the ladder is soft — every week of delay makes the same number harder.
Season 2 rewards the ready more than any single purchase. A character at the cap — campaign done, entry gear on, crests banking from day one — plays a different season than one still working through the quest log in September. The deadline is the same for everyone — August 18 — and the free week before it is where the head start actually lives. If parts of the checklist don’t fit your calendar, the Midnight Season 2 catalog covers every lane here.
