Warlock PvP at a Glance — TBC Anniversary Season 3
Best PvP Warlock Races in TBC Anniversary Season 3
Racial abilities decide close arena games, and for a Warlock the choice comes down to what your bracket keeps throwing at you.
Human — Best Alliance Race
- Exceptional against stealth openers. Perception boosts stealth detection for 20 seconds. Subtlety Rogues and Feral Druids get spotted before they land a clean opener. The Human Spirit adds +10% Spirit on top, which quietly helps mana regeneration through long resets.
Undead — Best Horde Race
- The Horde pick that wins mirrors. Will of the Forsaken breaks Fear, Charm and Sleep instantly — the direct answer to mirror Warlocks and Discipline Priests. Passive Shadow Resistance shaves incoming Shadow damage in the mirror as well.
Best PvP Warlock Builds & Talents in TBC Anniversary Season 3
The Season 3 setup is Soul Link / Siphon Life — SL/SL. The build reaches Soul Link in Demonology for a flat 20% damage redirect to your pet. The remaining 27 points go into Affliction for Siphon Life, Curse of Exhaustion and instant Corruption.
Standard SL/SL PvP Build — 27 / 34 / 0
The gold-standard Warlock setup for TBC Classic arena. It provides unmatched passive damage reduction, multi-target health drain and relentless pressure in long attrition matches.

What the tree secures
- Soul Link and the pet health pool. 20% of incoming damage transfers to your demon while your own damage rises 5%. Fel Stamina turns the pet into a second health bar.
- Dispel protection. 3/3 Shadow Embrace cuts the target’s physical damage by 5% and sits as a trash layer. Enemy Priests and Paladins burn extra globals before ever reaching your Corruption.
- Nightfall procs. 2/2 Nightfall gives Corruption and Drain Life ticks a 4% chance at an instant Shadow Bolt — burst without a cast bar.
- The 0.5-second resummon. Fel Domination with 2/2 Master Summoner drops summoning from 10 seconds to 0.5. A dead Felhunter comes straight back, or a Voidwalker arrives for an emergency shield.
- Defensive utility. 3/3 Demonic Aegis boosts Fel Armor healing and resistances across the match.
Key Talents & Spells
- Spell Lock — the Felhunter’s silence: 3 seconds flat, or a 6-second school lockout on a caught cast. Your primary weapon against healers.
- Corruption — instant baseline DoT, constant pressure, and the engine that fishes for Nightfall procs.
- Curse of Agony — 24 seconds of Shadow damage that ramps hard in its final ticks.
- Siphon Life — the attrition core. Every tick of damage returns as healing to the Warlock.
- Immolate — direct Fire damage plus a DoT, and one more layer between dispels and your core debuffs.
- Drain Life — the channel that drains their health bar into yours once pushback is handled.
- Fear — the signature control. Isolates healers, peels melee, and chains into everything else.
- Death Coil — instant horror for 3 seconds plus a chunk of health back, the guaranteed escape under melee pressure.
- Howl of Terror — instant AoE fear on up to 5 targets, the reset button against double melee.
- Devour Magic — the Felhunter’s purge, both ways: strips one buff from an enemy or one debuff from an ally, and heals the pet on success.
- Fel Domination — the emergency summon cooldown behind the 0.5-second pet swap.
Professions
Jewelcrafting is the premier Warlock profession in Season 3, providing character-bound epic gems for a raw spell damage advantage. Stack Spell Power in red sockets; balance Resilience with Spell Hit and Spell Penetration in yellow. Enchanting is the mandatory second: Enchant Ring – Spellpower adds +12 Spell Power per ring — an undispellable +24 available no other way.
Warlock PvP BiS Gear — Season 3
SL/SL gearing in Season 3 is built around surviving the opener. Two caps are hard requirements before anything else gets stacked.
Stat Priority
Two hard caps first, then throughput
- 3% Spell Hit cap. A resisted Fear, Death Coil or pet Spell Lock breaks the whole control chain. Cap it first.
- Spell Penetration (70). 70 bypasses passive resistances like Mark of the Wild, Shadow Protection and mirror Felhunter auras. Below that, DoTs and fears resist at random.
- Resilience (400+). The Warlock is the default kill target for physical cleaves. 400+ blunts crit chance and burst enough for Soul Link and passive healing to keep pace.
- Spell Damage. Raw spell power scales every tick of the rot and every point of Drain Life healing — the whole attrition engine runs on it.

Warlock PvP Matchups — What Beats You and What You Beat
SL/SL has no unwinnable matchup in Season 3. What changes is which tool carries the game, depending on who is across the arena.
| Opponent | Difficulty | How the fight is won |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue | Hard | Swap to Demon Armor, save Death Coil for the Kidney Shot window, and keep a Voidwalker Sacrifice shield in reserve |
| Warrior | Moderate | Curse of Exhaustion on sight, kite behind pillars, and let Soul Link plus Demon Armor eat what still connects |
| Mirror Warlock | Moderate | Decided by Felhunters — Devour Magic discipline and who lands Spell Lock on the other’s Fear first |
| Mage | Moderate | Devour Ice Barrier on sight, spread DoTs onto the Water Elemental, and fake-cast Fear against a held Counterspell |
| Priest | Moderate | Shadow Embrace and Immolate layers make every dispel expensive; Curse of Tongues slows their answer to your rot |
| Paladin | Easier | Devour Blessing of Freedom immediately and rot through — the DoTs outlast every cooldown they have |
| Druid | Easier | DoTs on every target deny restealth and drinking; Curse of Tongues turns their catch-up healing into slow motion |
Best Warlock Arena Comps in TBC Anniversary Season 3
SL/SL fits into dominant control and attrition compositions in every bracket. The Warlock is the inescapable damage engine; partners are chosen to layer control, punish mana pools or convert the rot into kill windows.
2v2 Comps
LD — SL/SL Warlock / Resto Druid · S-Tier, apex 2v2
- The premier attrition comp and the highest-rated Warlock 2v2 setup, built on survivability and relentless mana depletion.
- The Druid layers instant Lifebloom and Rejuvenation while staying nearly uncatchable. Games end when the enemy healer runs dry.
WP — SL/SL Warlock / Disc Priest · S-Tier, high offense
- The aggressive version — noticeably faster than other Warlock 2v2 setups, built on physical durability and double resource destruction.
- The Priest brings Prayer of Mending, Power Word: Shield and Mass Dispel, and joins the mana war directly.
RL — SL/SL Warlock / Sub Rogue · B-Tier, high burst
- The double-DPS alternative: trades the outlast game for explosive burst.
- The Rogue locks one target through Cheap Shot and Kidney Shot while DoTs spread and instant Death Coils land. It wins fast or not at all.
3v3 Comps
RLP — Sub Rogue / SL/SL Warlock / Disc Priest · S-Tier 3v3
- One of the most dominant 3v3 setups in the entire TBC meta. Rogue control, Warlock DoTs and Priest offensive purges land pressure from the first second.
- Unmatched spell disruption and instant CC let it dictate every swap.
MLP — Frost Mage / SL/SL Warlock / Disc Priest (Wizardcleave) · S-Tier
- The dual-caster nightmare: double purge through Spellsteal and Dispel Magic, and dual silences through pet Spell Lock and Improved Counterspell.
- Sheep chains layered with fears create pressure that has no clean answer.
WLD — SL/SL Warlock / Arms Warrior / Resto Druid · A-Tier
- The classic TBC powerhouse merging Warlock/Druid and Warrior/Druid into one roster.
- Corruption and Siphon Life stay active on every enemy, and the Warrior converts the resulting health decay into kills.
Warlock PvP Tips & Advanced Mechanics
Gear and comp get you to 1800 in WoW TBC arena. Everything below is what takes an SL/SL Warlock past it.
Gate Prep & Buffs
- The Sacrifice shield opener. Summon a Voidwalker inside the gates and Sacrifice it for a large absorption shield. Then Fel Domination into Summon Felhunter — you start the match shielded, with your real pet active.
- Trash buff layering. Pre-buff Unending Breath and Detect Invisibility on yourself and your partner. They exist to be dispelled: every global spent on them is one not spent on Fel Armor or your DoTs.
- Healthstones for everyone. Create Healthstone before gates and hand them out — every teammate gets an emergency heal you provided.
- Armor stance swapping. Fel Armor is the default for spell power and passive healing; swap to Demon Armor when a Rogue or Warrior sits on you for the armor and physical mitigation.
Pet Management & Utility
- Pick the pet for the lobby. Felhunter by default against casters and healers for Spell Lock and Devour Magic. Against pure double melee, hold Fel Domination for an emergency Voidwalker shield instead.
- The pet is your health bar — guard it. Losing the demon strips Soul Link and leaves you exposed. Pull the Felhunter behind pillars under splash damage and channel Health Funnel from behind cover.
- Devour both ways. Keybind Devour Magic for dual use — strip Blessing of Freedom or Power Infusion off kill targets, or cleanse Polymorph and Hammer of Justice off your teammates.
Control, Fake-Casting & Attrition
- Curse priority. Curse of Exhaustion the melee immediately for kiting distance; Curse of Tongues the healer for 60% slower casts and broken CC timing.
- Rot everything that moves. Spread Corruption and Siphon Life across every enemy player and pet, Hunter pets and Water Elementals included. Every extra tick scales your passive healing and fishes another Nightfall proc.
- Fake-cast Fear. Cancel at 70-80% to bait Kick, Pummel or an enemy Spell Lock. A successful juke leaves your Shadow school open for the real CC chain or a free Drain Life channel.
- Life Tap is a position, not a button. Life Tap only behind geometry or under heavy HoTs. Tapping in the open converts your health into the enemy’s kill window.
Win the Long Game
SL/SL Warlock wins arenas by making time itself the weapon. Every DoT tick, every devoured buff and every fear forces the enemy to spend faster than you do. The team that runs out of mana, cooldowns or patience first loses. Gear caps and comp choice matter, but the Warlocks who reach Gladiator in TBC Anniversary refuse the short game and never let it end early.
