Azta’rec is the WoW Midnight Season 2 Delve boss, fought in the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve added with Patch 12.1. Players who prefer assisted progression can use our WoW Delves Boost Services for this encounter and other seasonal Delves. The encounter is available on «?» and «??» difficulty and combines strict positioning, an interrupt-or-dispel responsibility, and a three-part memory game called Sermon of Ula’tek. The easier version is tuned around item level 290, while «??» adds heavier damage and an Echo of Azta’rec during every intermission. This guide covers the Midnight delve boss location, summon method, abilities, Valeera setup, memory-game solution, and seasonal rewards.

Azta’rec at a Glance
Where Is the Venomfall Deeps Delve?
Venomfall Deeps sits in the north of the Coiled Isle in WoW Midnight, inside the large snake-shaped structure that dominates that part of the map. If you have been running Season 2 content you have almost certainly flown past it.

Getting there
- Waypoint:
/way #2512 51.22 30.27— paste it into chat with a waypoint addon and fly straight to the entrance. - Landmark: the snake building on the northern coast. The Delve entrance is inside it rather than on the approach.
- Access: the Delve becomes available once Season 2 content is open on your character.
This answers the most common location query — where is the delve boss in Midnight.
How to Unlock and Summon Azta’rec
Azta’rec can appear randomly in a Tier 8 or higher Delve. You can also lure the roaming Nemesis with a Scalebound Herald’s Flute after activating the restoration checkpoint inside an eligible Delve. The dedicated Venomfall Deeps lair remains the separate seasonal challenge for the «?» and «??» achievements.
What you need before pulling
- Tier 8+ Delve access. Lower tiers never produce the Nemesis spawn, so the tier itself is the first gate.
- The Scalebound Herald’s Flute if you want to force the roaming encounter rather than wait for a random Nemesis appearance.
- Season 2 unlocked on the character you intend to fight him on.
- Around item level 290 for the baseline «?» challenge. Clean interrupts, dispels, and movement matter as much as a few extra item levels.
Azta’rec Difficulties: «?» vs «??»
Two difficulties, and the gap between them is not a damage multiplier — it is an extra enemy and a longer memory sequence.
| Difficulty | Recommended ilvl | Sermon sequence | Extra mechanics |
|---|---|---|---|
| «?» | Around 290 | 3 → 4 → 5 | Base kit only |
| «??» | Stronger gear and upgraded Valeera | 5 → 6 → 7 | Echo of Azta’rec spawns and uses the full ability set |
The first «?» completion is associated with 30 Hero Mistcrests, while current live reward summaries list 30 Myth Mistcrests for «??»; these bonus crests do not count against the normal seasonal cap. «??» is also where the title and solo mount live.
Azta’rec Abilities: Main Phase
The main phase is a short, readable kit. Learn these five and the fight becomes a positioning exercise.
| Ability | What it does | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Noxious Bile | Frontal cone that leaves lingering poison pools | Point him away from the arena centre so the pools land at the edges |
| Void Toxin | Dispellable magic debuff — ticking damage and −40% to your damage output | Dispel immediately; the damage penalty is what stretches the fight into extra intermissions |
| Soul Extinction | Interruptible cast, lethal if it completes | Interrupt every time. This is the non-negotiable one |
| Venom Storm | Slow-moving waves of poison across the room | Walk out of the path early; the waves are slow enough to ignore if you keep moving |
| Serpent’s Strike | Tank-only physical hit, modest damage | Nothing special — it exists to keep the tank honest |
The Intermission: Sermon of Ula’tek
At 90%, 60% and 30% health Azta’rec channels Sermon of Ula’tek and gains 99% damage reduction. Stop attacking — this is not a burn window, it is a memory test, and the room becomes the puzzle.
How the memory game works
- The room splits into four quarters. Three flood with poison, one stays clear.
- He shows you the sequence first, then repeats it from memory — your job is to be standing in the safe quarter each time.
- On «?» the sequence runs 3 → 4 → 5 steps across the three intermissions.
- On «??» it runs 5 → 6 → 7, which is where the fight genuinely gets hard.
- Stay near the middle between steps. Standing centrally means every quarter is one short move away rather than a sprint.

The trick that makes this manageable is world markers. Drop one in each quarter before you pull, and the sequence stops being spatial memory and becomes a list — blue, green, blue, yellow. Fixed colour labels keep working when your camera turns or you begin the next sequence from a different quadrant.
Echo of Azta’rec
On «??» the intermission also summons an Echo of Azta’rec, and the Echo uses the same ability set as the boss himself — including the interruptible cast. That means the memory sequence now runs while something else is actively trying to kill you.
Handle it by switching targets immediately: crowd control the Echo if your class allows, burst it down between sequence steps, and keep your interrupt ready. Keep the add near the central markers so you never lose sight of the safe quadrants. If it survives into the replay, movement takes priority over finishing a cast.
Best Valeera Setup and Curios
Your Delve companion covers whichever job you cannot do yourself, and getting this wrong makes the fight considerably harder than it needs to be.
| Your role | Valeera spec | Who handles what |
|---|---|---|
| DPS or Tank | Healer | She dispels Void Toxin, you interrupt Soul Extinction |
| Healer | DPS | She interrupts Soul Extinction, you handle the dispel |
Curios matter, but covering your interrupt and dispel responsibilities matters more. The following live options are practical for this encounter:
- Poison — Frosthearth Venom. Reduces the enemy’s attack and cast speed by 20%, giving you more time to react to Soul Extinction and Void Toxin.
- Combat — Corrosive Bilespear. Straightforward damage that helps shorten both the boss phase and Echo windows.
- Utility — Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher. At Rank 3 and above, successful interrupts increase damage against elite enemies, matching the Soul Extinction mechanic.
Step-by-Step Strategy
The full plan, in order
- Set four world markers — one per quarter — before you summon him. This is the single highest-value thing you can do before the pull.
- Pull him to the edge of the arena and keep him there, with the frontal cone pointed outward so Noxious Bile pools never land in the middle.
- Interrupt Soul Extinction every cast. If Valeera is on interrupt duty, save yours for the Echo on «??».
- Dispel Void Toxin the moment it lands. The −40% damage penalty is the reason fights run long.
- Move early on Venom Storm. The waves are slow — most deaths to them are from standing still while dispelling or interrupting.
- Stand centrally as each intermission begins, watch the sequence, and call it out by marker rather than by direction.
- On «??», switch to the Echo as soon as it appears. Crowd control, burst, then return to the pattern.
- Save Bloodlust for after the final intermission. The longest pattern is finished at 30%, no further intermission remains, and the arena is at its least forgiving.
Common Reasons You Wipe
- Pointing the cone into the middle. Noxious Bile pools stack up in the arena centre and take away the space you need during the intermission.
- Losing the Sermon pattern. Without markers, five steps on «??» is genuinely difficult to hold in your head under pressure.
- Ignoring the Echo. It casts everything the boss does, including the lethal one, and it does not stop while you are watching the sequence.
- Letting Void Toxin tick. The damage penalty prolongs every main phase and increases the chance of dangerous mechanic overlaps.
- Going in undergeared. Below the recommended item level the fight stretches past the point where clean play covers for it.
- Blowing Bloodlust on the pull. Reaching 90% faster helps nothing; reaching the last 30% faster ends the fight.
Venomfall Deeps Rewards
Every difficulty pays something, and the headline rewards sit behind specific conditions rather than drop chances.

|---|---|---|
| My Venomous Nemesis | Feat of Strength | Defeat Azta’rec on any difficulty |
| Apophic Patagia | Cloak transmog | Defeat Azta’rec on any difficulty |
| Corrosive Victory | Toy | Complete the Fangs for the Memories quest |
| 30 Hero Mistcrest | Currency | First «?» kill — outside your seasonal cap |
| 30 Myth Mistcrest | Currency | «??» completion — listed as an uncapped reward in current live summaries |
| Purging the Poison → title “the Poisonous” | Achievement, title | Defeat him on «??» |
| Apophic Soul Crusher | Mount | Solo kill on «??» — the Let Me Solo Him: Azta’rec achievement |
| Title “Fabled Vanquisher of Azta’rec” | Title | Solo «??» during the first week of Season 2 |
Midnight Delve Boss: Final Checklist
The Midnight delve boss becomes consistent once the pattern clicks: five readable main-phase abilities, one escalating memory game, and a companion covering either the dispel or interrupt. Players searching for Aztarec without the apostrophe are looking for this same boss. Keep the centre clean, convert the safe route into marker colours, remove the Echo quickly on «??», and save major cooldowns for the final 30%.
