Why Reputation Mounts are the Ultimate Flex
In the TBC Anniversary, your mount isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s a badge of honor. Whether you’re hovering over Shattrath on a Netherwing Drake or riding through Nagrand on a Talbuk, these mounts tell everyone you’ve put in the work.
The grind is real, though. We’re talking dozens of hours farming eggs in Shadowmoon Valley or slaying thousands of ogres. If you’ve got more gold than time—or if you’d rather spend your nights raiding—getting a TBC Reputation Boost is a totally valid way to skip the headache and jump straight to the reward.
But if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, here is exactly how to snag the best rides in Outland.
1. The Sha’tari Skyguard (Nether Rays)
If you want a mount that looks like a bioluminescent alien, the Nether Ray is for you. These are tied to the Sha’tari Skyguard in the Skettis region of Terokkar Forest.
-
The Start: Head to the Shattrath flight master and grab the quest “Threat from Above.“
- The Daily Bonus: Once you finish the intro, you unlock the Fires Over Skettis daily. It’s a quick bomb-run that nets you an easy 350 reputation every day—never skip this!
-
The Loop: You’ll be spending a lot of time in Skettis. The “secret sauce” here is Shadow Dust.
-
Farm Arakkoa for dust.
-
Turn it in for the Elixir of Shadows so you can see invisible ghosts.
-
Kill those ghosts to get Time-Lost Scrolls.
-
-
The Boss: Use the scrolls to summon mini-bosses, collect their drops, and eventually summon Terokk. He gives the biggest rep boost.
2. Cenarion Expedition (Cenarion War Hippogryph)
Cenarion Hippogryph is probably the most “druid-core” mount in the game. It’s elegant, classic, and luckily, the farm is pretty straightforward.
-
The Strategy: Forget questing; just spam dungeons. Specifically, The Steamvault in Coilfang Reservoir.
-
The Loot: You’re looking for Coilfang Armaments. You can turn these in repeatedly for rep.
-
Efficiency: Run it on Heroic once a day for the massive completion bonus, then reset and farm it on Normal. You can buy the mount from Fedryen Swiftspear in Zangarmarsh once you hit Exalted.
3. Kurenai & Mag’har (The Talbuks)
Nagrand is arguably the most beautiful zone in TBC, and its mounts—the Talbuks—are just as iconic. Depending on your faction, you’ll be working with the Kurenai (Alliance) or Mag’har (Horde).
Location
Your faction’s main hub in Nagrand is easy to find: Telaar for the Alliance and Garadar for the Horde. Most of your reputation progress will be centered around these two settlements.
Getting Started
If you’re not already Neutral with the faction, you can begin by picking up the introductory quest — “Message to Telaar” (Alliance) or “Message to Garadar” (Horde). Both quests are given by Lantresor of the Blade, who can be found in Nagrand at coordinates 73.8, 62.6. Speaking with him will send you straight toward your faction’s base and officially kick off your reputation grind.
The Ogre Grind
Be ready to spend a lot of time fighting ogres — this is the core of the process and where most of your reputation will come from.
What You’re Farming
Your main target is Obsidian Warbeads. Nearly every ogre in Nagrand has a chance to drop them, and turning in 10 Warbeads grants 500 reputation.
Best Farming Locations
Warmaul Hill is the most efficient farming spot thanks to its very high ogre density. It’s also tied to the quest “War on the Warmaul”, which makes this area even more rewarding, as you can progress the quest while farming Obsidian Warbeads. That said, Warmaul Hill is often heavily contested by other players.
If the area is too crowded, Burning Blade Ruins serves as a reliable and much quieter alternative for both kill-based reputation and Warbead farming.
PvP Bonus – Halaa
Don’t forget about Halaa. When your faction controls the town, you can trade PvP tokens for two exclusive Dark Talbuk mounts, making it a great bonus option for players who enjoy PvP.
Where to Buy Talbuk Mounts
Talbuks can be purchased from Trader Narasu (Alliance) or Provisioner Nasela (Horde).
Dark Talbuks are sold by Aldraan (Alliance) and Coreiel (Horde).
4. The Netherwing (Netherwing Drakes)
How to Unlock Netherwing Drake Mounts in TBC Anniversary
Netherwing Drakes are widely considered the ultimate status mounts of The Burning Crusade. With six distinct color variations, these flying beasts are a clear sign that their owner has fully conquered one of the longest and most demanding reputation grinds in the expansion. To even start this, you need 300 Riding Skill (the fast flying). If you don’t have the gold for that yet, start saving, or you can buy TBC Gold.
Where It All Begins
Your path to becoming a Netherwing ally starts in Shadowmoon Valley with the quest “To Netherwing Ledge!”, which sets the stage for your involvement in the conflict between the Netherwing dragons and the Dragonmaw orcs.
Proving Your Intentions
You’ll first meet Mordenai, who tests your goodwill through the quest “Kindness.” To earn his trust, you must gather Rocknail Flayer Giblets from nearby flayers and use them to feed 8 Mature Netherwing Drakes scattered across the area.
Meeting Neltharaku
Once you’ve proven yourself, you’ll be sent to seek out Neltharaku, a powerful Netherwing dragon who patrols the skies above Shadowmoon Valley and becomes your main guide throughout the storyline.
Striking at Dragonmaw Fortress
Your next objective takes you deep into enemy territory. At Dragonmaw Fortress, you’ll eliminate 15 Dragonmaw Orcs, weakening their grip on the enslaved Netherwing dragons.
Journey to Netherwing Ledge
After that, you’ll head to Netherwing Ledge, where you must collect 12 Netherwing Crystals from hostile flayers and ravagers roaming the region.
Freeing the Enslaved
Back at the fortress, the quest “The Force of Neltharaku” tasks you with freeing 5 Enslaved Netherwing Drakes, further proving your loyalty to the Netherwing cause.
Ally of the Netherwing (Group Quest)
The final hurdle is a group encounter against Highbane. Defeating him officially earns you Neutral reputation with the Netherwing faction and grants access to the next phase of progression.
Daily Quests and Reputation Climb
At Neutral, you receive a magical disguise that allows you to infiltrate Dragonmaw Base Camp. From here, daily quests become your primary source of reputation. As you advance to Honored and Revered, new activities unlock, including aerial races, sabotage missions, and quests like “The Booterang”
The Netherwing Egg Shortcut
For players looking to speed things up, Netherwing Eggs are the key. Each egg awards 250 reputation and can be found hidden throughout the mines, on floating islands, or dropped by enemies on Netherwing Ledge. Actively hunting these eggs can dramatically reduce the total time needed to reach Exalted.
