What Is the Obsidian Sanctum in WoW?

The Obsidian Sanctum is a one-boss raid from Wrath of the Lich King, hidden beneath Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight. Sartharion the Onyx Guardian waits there with three Twilight Drakes — Tenebron, Shadron and Vesperon. Kill the drakes first and the fight is short. Leave them alive and Sartharion becomes far harder, but the reward improves.

That second way is the reason players still come back. A Sartharion kill with all three drakes up, often called 3D, is the only way to get the Reins of the Black Drake in the 10-player version and the Reins of the Twilight Drake in the 25-player version.

In current WoW the danger is not the damage but the order of events. Too much burst can kill a drake early or end the fight before the third one joins, and then the mount chance for that lockout is gone. Experienced players hold their damage and time the pull.
